South King Housing and Homelessness Partners (SKHHP)
Is actively recruiting members to join its inaugural Advisory Board.
SKHHP is the first-ever affordable housing collaborative in South King County, formalized in 2019. SKHHP is governed by an Interlocal Agreement and consists of an Executive Board, two dedicated staff, and a workgroup composed of human services and planning staff from partner jurisdictions. Developing an Advisory Board is a vital step in ensuring that community voices inform SKHHP’s work.
South King County is home to a disproportionately higher number of BIPOC community members, single-parent and senior households, and simultaneously reflects a much lower median income and higher poverty rate than other parts of King County. Current SKHHP members include King County (representing unincorporated South King County), Auburn, Burien, Covington, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Normandy Park, Renton and Tukwila.
Through SKHHP, these higher-need, lower-resourced cities are pooling assets to coordinate a comprehensive approach to producing and preserving quality affordable housing in South King County. SKHHP is also creating a housing capital fund and 501(c)(3) fundraising arm while working to create public-private partnerships to increase investment in affordable housing and a regional solution to homelessness for South King County communities.
Recruitment is open now and while considering applications on a rolling basis after the deadline, the priority period ends on June 30, 2021.
